AMWA is calling for physician and trainee members to apply to serve as official delegates to the upcoming 33rd Triennial Congress of the Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA). The Congress brings together medical women from over 90 countries to address global challenges in medicine, gender equity, leadership, and health policy. AMWA was honored to host the 100th Anniversary Congress of MWIA in 2019 in New York City.

As a member organization of MWIA, AMWA holds a limited number of delegate seats at each Congress. All AMWA women physician members automatically receive MWIA membership, while students, residents, and fellows are part of Young MWIA (yMWIA).

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for AMWA members to represent our organization on the world stage,” said Dr. Eliza Chin, AMWA Executive Director and Treasurer of MWIA. “As someone who has represented both MWIA and AMWA at the World Health Assembly in Geneva for the past three years, I’ve seen firsthand how critical our voices are in shaping global health policy and advocating for women physicians around the world.”

In addition to the call for delegates, AMWA is currently accepting applications for the MWIA Coordinator role. This individual will serve a three-year term (November 2025–2028) as the official liaison between AMWA and MWIA, helping to foster collaboration, promote global leadership opportunities, and keep AMWA members informed about MWIA activities and events.

Delegates to the MWIA Congress will be selected through an internal AMWA application process among those attending the Congress. Those chosen will be expected to attend the General Assembly sessions, participate in discussions and voting, and report back to AMWA on key takeaways and outcomes.

Dr. Chin encourages members to apply for both roles. “By becoming a delegate or stepping into leadership as MWIA Coordinator, AMWA members can deepen their engagement in global medicine and help shape the future of women’s health worldwide.”

In addition, opportunities to join MWIA committees will open shortly after the MWIA Congress at the start of the new triennium.
