Kashmira Chawla

A third year medical student at Mayo Medical School, Kashmira Chawla, has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a physician, human rights advocate, and global health researcher. She has also obtained an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, UK in 2013. Kashmira is the Co-founder and Executive Director of RIGHTS (REACH Initiative Granting Healthcare for Trafficked Survivors), a student-run program that provides free healthcare services and advocacy for sex trafficking victims in collaboration with community partners in Rochester, Minnesota. She also serves as a Representative on the Olmsted County Working Group – Minnesota Human Trafficking Taskforce. She has held leadership positions in the past as the Regional Chapter Mentor and Mayo Medical School Co-Chair of Physicians for Human Rights, AMSA Global Health Scholar, Oxfam America Change Initiative Leader, Representative on the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Student Council, and Rotary Ambassadorial Global Scholar. As a Doris Duke International Clinical Research Fellow (2013-2014), she conducted public health research at UNC Project in Lilongwe, Malawi. In the past, she has also conducted research and implemented health education projects in Thailand, India, and Honduras.
