Fatima Fahs

Student Division President

Fatima Fahs is an incoming fourth year medical student at Oakland University William Beaumont (OUWB) School of Medicine in Rochester Hills, Michigan on a full-merit scholarship. As an undergraduate, she was 1 of 15 MedStart Scholars at Wayne State University where she graduated to receive a Bachelor’s of Science in Honors Biology and a Minor in Art.

Prior to her role as President of AMWA, Fatima previously served as President of OUWB’s AMWA Chapter where she worked to double membership to include 75% of the female population at the school. Her goal for the upcoming year as National President will be to work with chapters on how to directly be involved at the national level. She hopes to bring on new partnerships that will provide test preparation and discounted resources to AMWA members. Lastly, Fatima would like to continue to further her work in mentorship as she believes strong mentorship relationships are a key aspect to success throughout a career in medicine.

Currently, Fatima’s research includes studying how art therapy can be used for stress management in inpatient physical rehabilitation units of hospitals. She strongly believes that art and medicine work in a synergistic fashion. In addition, Fatima is conducting research in several areas of Dermatology including the role of microRNAs in wound healing and Teledermatology Business Modeling. Outside of her responsibilities, Fatima enjoys continuing her passion for art through acrylic and oil painting and traveling with her husband, Hassan.
