Dana Shuaibi is a first-year, undergraduate premedical student at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign pursuing a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology and minoring in Public Health. She is currently a member of the UIUC AMWA Branch. Apart from AMWA, Dana is currently a research assistant in the Department of Communication at UIUC and is helping to analyze patient-provider communication, specifically those with International Medical Graduates (IMG’s) who were born or trained in non-North American countries, and how those IMG’s can effectively and appropriately manage their lack of comprehension of U.S. patients’ language use. Outside of campus, Dana volunteers with the Future Doctors of America, and at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL, where she has attended to the care of patients in the Pediatrics Department and is now volunteering in the Cardiopulmonary Unit. She is also a member of the Outreach Team at Avicenna Community Health Center. Dana has also been a tutor for Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Homework Helpers Get, Set, Go Program where she spends her summers tutoring students in math.
