AMWA is offering three scholarships to cover the complete cost of MCAT registration ($325 each). AMWA is well aware of the prohibitive costs associated with registering and preparing for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). As this year continues to be rife with hardship for so many Americans, we believe that the cost of the MCAT exam should not be an added obstacle that premedical students must overcome to realize their career goals. The MCAT Scholarship will be awarded to a low-income and URM student.
AMWA understands that your journey in medicine begins before medical school and that this journey can be expensive. Supporting your career path and ensuring your success is important to us, so we are offering two $250 scholarships to women currently enrolled in undergraduate or post-baccalaureate pre-medical coursework who intend to pursue medical school. Awardees will be chosen based on the embodiment of the goals of AMWA. Financial need, though not a requirement, is also considered.
Please note that the applicant must have someone fill out the letter of recommendation form, which is included in the application.
AMWA understands that medical school application fees can constitute a significant financial burden on students, and as a result, may deter them from applying to certain medical programs. In an effort to relieve students of the financial burden that medical school applications may cause, the Premedical Division of AMWA is offering a Medical School Application Scholarship. Please note that this scholarship may only fund 1-2 schools, not your entire medical school application.
This annual award is presented to a Premedical or Medical Student Division leader–nominated by her fellow AMWA National leaders–who makes substantial, yet unrecognized, contributions to AMWA.
To be eligible for the award, the awardee must be present at AMWA’s Annual Meeting. The award recipient will be announced during Student Elections and will receive $200.
We know that the cost of joining professional organizations and applying to medical schools can add up. In an effort to be more inclusive and break down barriers to pursuing medicine and membership in organizations such as AMWA, we are excited to announce that the National Premedical Division will be awarding scholarships to waive the cost of national membership in AMWA. Awardees will be chosen based on need, as well as the embodiment of the goals of AMWA.
AMWA understands that the cost of joining professional organizations such as AMWA can be a burden when taking into consideration the cost of applying to medical school and other expenses. In an effort to be more inclusive and break down financial barriers, AMWA has created a need-based fee reduction waiver for students interested in joining AMWA. Recipients of the scholarship will be chosen based on extenuating financial circumstances and on personal embodiment of AMWA’s goals. This is not a complete fee waiver, but rather a 30% discount on our usual membership fee.
This waiver will provide free registration to the AMWA 2024 National Meeting. To qualify, you must be a National AMWA member. For more information about the National Meeting, visit AMWA Meetings – American Medical Women’s Association.
Applicants MUST be current National Premedical AMWA members and NOT already registered for the 2024 Annual Meeting.
Local AMWA branches can apply for more than one award. The first five awards listed share ONE common application link.
Awarded to the branch whose members and officers were active at the national and local levels. Consideration is given to branches with the most number of national members.
Branches who have hosted an event of their creation and wish to nominate their award for being novel, creative, or influential with regard to their study body or community can apply for this award.
Awarded to the branch that was able to donate many of their proceeds to various charitable/non-profit organizations, or was able to engage with various organizations in their community that are non-profit. (Essentially to encourage branches to work with non-profit organizations in their community).
Awarded to a branch that hosted an event or series of events for an international cause and was able to make a difference in a cause that went above and beyond from an international perspective.
Branches that have been established for at least one semester and have at least five national AMWA members can apply for the AMWA Outstanding Branch Award. This award will honor the Premed Branch, which has hosted a series of events that serve the premed community in their region, as well as fulfilling the missions of the national AMWA organization.
The AMWA Premedical Branch with the most recruited physicians to AMWA from April 1st, 2023 through October 30th, 2023.
Physician Recruitment Form (NOT an award)
Work with your branch members to recruit physicians to AMWA! Your branch will receive $25 per physician recruited! Recruited physicians must include your branch name in the referral line during registration. A minimum of 4 physicians must be recruited for your branch to request funds. Use the form below for your submissions! After doing so, please apply for the Physician Recruitment Branch Award, which will be awarded to the branch that recruits the most physicians!
An AMWA member can apply for this award or nominate another national member for this award if they feel that they have contributed to the mission statement of AMWA, which is to “function at the local, national, and international level to advance women in medicine and improve women’s health by providing and developing leadership, advocacy, education, expertise, mentoring, and strategic alliances.”
This award is to recognize individual members of branches who may or may not necessarily have a leadership position, but who have spearheaded a project or stepped up this year.
AMWA is continually striving to empower its members and support our communities. We want to recognize the events and initiatives led by our members focused on increasing representation and fostering a sense of community.
Mental health and wellness has been difficult to maintain through a global pandemic, but our members know the importance of self-care and advocating for mental health awareness in our communities.
