Southeastern CoChair 2020 – 2021
Dr. Monica Broome is the Director of the new Communication Skills Program for University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Her interest is in the neuroscience of communication specifically physician patient communication, and the scope of this program includes the undergraduate, graduate, and faculty development levels. She joined AMWA’s Physicians Against the Trafficking of Humans (PATH) as a LIFT facilitator in 2020 and is excited to lend her skillset toward further developing the group’s curriculum and educating healthcare providers around the nation.
Dr. Broome’s advocacy for woman’s health goes back decades. In the 1980’s she had the honor to be invited to Washington to join a committee to send a white paper to Congress regarding the healthcare of woman veterans.
Now as an international speaker for medicine, law, and business, her presentations focus on preventing violence and promoting justice through improved communication. At the last International Association of Law and Mental Health she presented on communication skills training concerning conflict and bullying. She serves on the American College of Physicians Legislative Action Program for Health Care Reform and participated as a Florida delegate for Leadership Day in Washington DC. As founder and CEO of Areté Medical Enterprise, LLC she assists colleagues in amplifying skills to upgrade connection with others.
