AMWA Initiatives
The American Medical Women’s Association advocates to bring under-addressed issues to the forefront of the national agenda.
Our mission is advance women in medicine, advocate for equity, and ensure excellence in healthcare.
Our work falls under three main pillars: Professional/Personal Development, Advocacy, and Education.

DEI Principles are core to AMWA’s work—from Gender Equity initiatives, Revolution by Resolution and #MeTooMedicine and partnership campaigns, #NeedHerScience, #HerTimeIsNow, #GiveHerAReasonToStay, and #InvestInHer, to work on anti-racism, and LGBTQ+ health. NUTRITION & MEDICAL TASK FORCE
We live in a land of high quantity, low quality food with ultra-processed options high in sodium, added sugar, saturated fats, and refined carbohydrates as the norm. This approach to eating is linked to cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory conditions, mental health disorders, chronic pain and certain cancers, including breast cancer in women.
PREMEDICAL DIVISION
AMWA supports those who are just beginning their journeys in medicine through mentorship, resources, networking, and leadership opportunities. Join us and we will be there for you every step of the way.
PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
AMWA’s focus on preventive medicine includes promoting sleep as the foundation of health and initiatives that focus on vaccination, drug safety, senior health, nutrition, and healthy eating.
PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES
AMWA helps address timely public health issues like gun violence, human trafficking, obesity, opioid addiction, alcohol use, climate change, domestic violence, caregiving, and rare diseases.
