Urge HHS to rescind the proposed changes to the Title X Program

Title: AMWA Voices Opposition to Proposed HHS Rule to Limit Title X Funding for Family Planning Services: Actions You Can Take

AMWA has joined other organizations in signing a letter to Secretary of HHS Azar opposing the proposed rule that would deny Title X funding to organizations that provide or discuss abortion (see Background below).

Will you consider signing a provider pledge HERE to stand with patients and oppose the Trump gag rule?

AMWA is partnering with The National Partnership for Women & Families, Planned Parenthood, ACOG, American Academy of Nursing, and other provider groups opposed to the Title X rule to make sure the administration hears loud and clear opposition from health care providers.

BACKGROUND: Last month, the Trump-Pence administration proposed sweeping changes to the nation’s birth control program, known as Title X. Each year, this essential program provides affordable birth control and cancer screenings to 4 million people with low-incomes.

This proposed regulation would ban health care providers that participate in Title X from giving women full information about their health care options, specifically information on where and how to access safe, legal abortion. There is no question the Trump gag rule violates core ethical standards and undermines the patient-provider relationship.

AMWA  joins a long list of provider organizations including AMAANAACOG, AAP, ACNM, ACP, APAOG, NPWH, NSRH, SAHM in opposing the Title X rule.

It’s important to point out this isn’t just about protecting access to reproductive health care and the nation’s birth control program. It’s about putting patients’ needs first. Political interference should not undermine a healthcare provider’s ability to give the best care and information to her or his patients.

Physicians and other healthcare providers are an essential voice in protecting ethical patient care, the patient-provider relationship, and access to complete, unbiased information.

You may sign the pledge HERE .
