On International Women’s Day, AMWA is thrilled to announce that Northwell Health is the first institution to become an affiliate member institution of AMWA, thereby enabling all physicians and physicians in training at Northwell Health to become affiliate members of AMWA. Under this new model of membership, AMWA is seeking to provide more women in medicine focused resources for institutions and organizations.
“AMWA offers a wonderful network of women physicians across all specialties,” said AMWA President Dr. Theresa Rohr-Kirchgraber. “These opportunities for mentorship, sponsorship, and leadership have been transformative for so many of us within AMWA. We are excited to welcome the Northwell community to join our ranks.”
Already, AMWA has worked with physician leaders at Northwell. Dr. Jennifer Mieres and Dr. Stacy Rosen are executive producers of the film, Ms. Diagnosed, which AMWA is actively screening among student and resident branches within AMWA. Dr. Jennifer Svahn was the keynote speaker for the Medical Student Division last March and also a featured speaker during AMWA’s parallel event during the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. AMWA participates in Northwell Health’s Center for Gun Violence Prevention educational programs.
“We are proud to partner with AMWA, as we continue to build a network of physicians to care for the 8 million people in the communities we seek to serve,” said Judith Heller, Vice-President of Physician Recruitment at Northwell Heath. “We strive to ensure that Northwell is a place where each physician is recognized as both a clinician and an individual. We do that by listening to panels of physicians, so that we can understand their needs…flexible schedules, fertility benefits and honest discussions about compensation. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide membership in AMWA to all of our physicians and value the collaboration over the past year.”
