1915-2012
Dr. Geraldine Mowbray died at age 97 years from Parkinson’s Disease on October 31st at 10:15 am at her home, the Thomas House, in Washington, DC in Capital Caring Hospice care.
Geraldine ”Gerrie” Addie (named for her paternal grandmother) Mowbray was born in Kansas City, Kansas on May 26, 1915 to George and Ethel Jones Mowbray. George, a Washingtonian, and Ethel, a Baltimorean, met at Howard University where George majored in electrical engineering and Ethel in mathematics and education. George earned a Master’s Degree at the University of Chicago. Ethel was also one of the founders of the Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Incorporated which enshrined her name in its “founders” stained-glass window in Howard’s Andrew Rankin Chapel.
