AMWA Members Invited to Participate in the Hektoen International Summer Essay Contest on the Theme of Food and the Body

AMWA members are invited to participate in the Hektoen International Summer Essay Contest on the theme of Food and the Body. Please submit essays about food and drink as related to health and the body, using the lens of the humanities. Suggested topics may include, but are not limited to: the history of food, famine, or drought in ancient or contemporary societies; food and body image as portrayed in art and literature; the ethics of healthcare pertaining to issues of diet and weight; or cultural perspectives on food, the body, and health. A prize of $2500 will be awarded for the winning essay and one of $800 for the runner-up. Essays should be no longer than 1600 words.

The contest deadline is September 14, 2018 at 12pm Central Time; winners will be announced in the Winter 2019 issue of the journal. Essays that are accepted for publication in the journal may also be available to readers before the January issue. Please visit our summer contest rules and submission guidelines for more details.
