Fundraising For Headstone For Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the First African-American Female to Earn a Medical Degree In the United States

Hello,

My name is Debbie Hall. I live in Worcester, MA. I am currently fundraising for a headstone for Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first African-American female to earn a medical degree in the United States.

Dr. Crumpler attended the New England Female Medical College. My interest in women’s history, African-American history and love of historic cemeteries, led me to visit her grave site in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. After visiting, I realized that she did not have a headstone. Dr. Crumpler led a life of service and is notable as the first, and to my knowledge, the only African-American female to attend and graduate from New England Female Medical College.

I have started a Go Fund Me account to purchase a headstone. I am reaching out to organizations to inquire about interest in donating or participating in any way to raise money and/or show recognition to Dr. Crumpler.
