Dr. Harrison’s first letter to AMWA membership as president

Dear AMWA Family,

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as AMWA President. We will build on the work of the strong women that have made our accomplishments possible, and will honor them with continued efforts to provide excellent care to all patients. We must improve health outcomes for women, and continue to explore sex and gender differences in health and wellness.

We will promote a culture of integrity and mutual respect, improving the work environment in an effort to increase resilience while addressing the issues that create burnout. We will build on the efforts of AMWA past-presidents to address mental illness and suicide in our profession, and to create opportunities for physicians to re-enter the work force after a prolonged absence. We must continue to nurture and mentor one another through humanistic endeavors.

I look forward to working with each and every one of you, to advance women in medicine and to improve health outcomes for women globally. We have a unique opportunity before us – our advocacy efforts are now of paramount importance. Our strong, clear and unified voices must be heard as we advocate for women physicians and for our patients’ rights to adequate and affordable health care.

I am here to humbly serve you. Let’s work together to make this a productive and extraordinary year!

Sincerely,
Suzanne Leonard Harrison, MD, FAAFP, FAMWA
AMWA President
