Congressional Hearings on Reproductive Care

AMWA invites members who want to follow the discussion and decisions pertaining to reproductive care and medical privacy and autonomy in this week’s congressional hearings in the Senate and House. If you do view these sessions, please share your insights, concerns, and especially topics for us to address at upcoming AMWA Town Hall Sessions on Reproductive Care Post-Roe.

Tuesday, July 12 @ 10 am ET, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing: “A Post-Roe America: The Legal Consequences of the Dobbs Decision.”   Witnesses include:
  • Dr. Colleen P. McNicholas, Chief Medical Officer for Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri
  • Khiara M. Bridges, Professor of Law at UC Berkeley
  • The Honorable Juliana Stratton, Lieutenant Governor of Illinois.
  • Denise Harle from the Center For Life Alliance Defending Freedom
  • Heidi Matzke from Alternatives Pregnancy Center.

On Wednesday, July 13 @ 10 am ET, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee held “a hearing to examine reproductive care in a post-Roe America, focusing on barriers, challenges, and threats to women’s health.”  Witnesses include:

Samie, a Planned Parenthood patient advocate,
Dr. Jamila Taylor, Director of Health Care Reform and Senior Fellow at the Century Foundation
Dr. Kristyn Brandi, Board Chair at Physicians for Reproductive Health.

On Wednesday, July 13, the House Committee on Oversight and Reform held a hearing: “The Impact of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs Decision on Abortion Rights and Access Across the United States.

On Thursday, July 14, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing entitled “What’s Next: The Threat to Individual Freedoms in a Post-Roe World.

On Tuesday, July 19 @ 10:30 am ET, the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing: “Roe Reversal: The Impacts of Taking Away the Constitutional Right to an Abortion.” Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, witnesses, testimony, and a live webcast will be posted HERE, as they become available.
