The symposium focused on four main areas of work for AMWA in 2017: sex and gender medicine, human trafficking and the role of the healthcare provider, physician wellness, and mentoring. Executive and leadership sessions discussed strategic plans regarding membership growth, partnerships, and future initiatives. AMWA Local Hero Awards recognized Carol Lindsley, MD, Mary Redmon, DO, Susan Pingleton, MD, Naomi Shields, MD, Anne Walling, MD, Barbara Bollier, MD, and Kimberly Templeton, MD for their leadership in medicine. A highlight of the meeting was a tour of the National World War I Museum and Memorial and a preview of AMWA’s upcoming film, At Home and Over There: American Women Physicians in World War I. A collection of books on women physicians in World War I was donated to the archives to help expand their research collection on women.
