AMWA Unites Against Systemic Racism & Police Brutality

As the trial of a former Minneapolis police officer in the killing of George Floyd unfolds, Black people are facing a relentless onslaught of traumatic and activating video footage and witness testimony. As protests continue in Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis in the wake of yet another death of a Black man, Daunte Wright, at the hands of police, Black people in America continue to face systemic racism and police brutality.

The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) recognizes the suffering and fear that Black people live with daily. We resolutely oppose racism and violence, and continue to call upon every physician and student of medicine to stand in solidarity, both publicly and privately, against the public health crises of systemic racism and police brutality. AMWA encourages our members to speak out collectively and individually, and to become part of the solution, united in opposition to the continued brutalization of the Black community.
