AMWA Represented at the World Health Assembly Executive Board Session in Geneva

Last month, the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board convened its 154th session in Geneva, Switzerland. AMWA was represented by Dr. Padmini Murthy, who attended the meeting as part of the Women in Global Health delegation. Dr. Murthy spoke about the fact that women make up 75% of the healthcare workforce but only 25% serve in senior leadership roles.

She presented these six points for consideration to the Executive Board:

  • Ensure gender equal leadership and decision making at all areas of the health sector
  • Ensure safe and decent workplaces to protect women health workers from violence, sexual abuse, and harassment
  • Eliminate gender pay gap and ensure adequate pay for health workers, especially community health workers
  • Ensure that data collection and analysis be disaggregated by sex, gender identity, and other relevant stratifiers during the monitoring and evaluation of the UHC process
  • Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health services as these are essential services
  • Deliver the commitments made on gender equality made in the 2023 UHC Political Declaration
