We are excited to announce that AMWA worked on the 3rd Annual National Obesity Care Week (NOCW) which took place Oct. 29th – Nov. 4th. NOCW is a national awareness campaign to ensure anyone affected by obesity receives respectful and comprehensive care. Today, more than 90 million adult Americans have obesity, and in the last 20 years, obesity rates have doubled among adults. Now, more than ever, people that are affected by obesity or those who care, healthcare professionals and policymakers, must examine their personal perspectives and biases related to obesity and take action to treat obesity as the serious and complex disease it is.
AMWA is proud of its participation in the Campaign and would like to thank the Social Media Committee and the Preventive Medicine Task Force for their efforts. The Campaign was founded by The Obesity Society, the Obesity Action Coalition, Strategies to Overcome and Prevent Obesity Alliance and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Although the week-long campaign has ended, we need more voices to reach our goal of achieving better care. Please join us and change the way you care about people with obesity by taking the Take 5 Pledge, which addresses 5 reasons to care about obesity.
