AMWA Participates in 32nd Medical Women’s International Association Congress

The 32nd MWIA Congress was held in Taipei, Taiwan June 24-26, 2022 and organized by the Taiwanese Medical Women’s Association (TMWA). AMWA members and delegates participated in the Congress both in-person and virtually for the international association’s first hybrid Congress.

Elected Representatives

Dr. Padmini Murthy, AMWA’s Global Health Lead, completed her three-year term as Secretary General of MWIA. AMWA Past President Dr. Connie Newman and AMWA Executive Director, Dr. Eliza Chin began their three-year terms as Vice President of North America and Treasurer of MWIA respectively for the upcoming triennium.

Scientific Sessions

AMWA COVID-19 Lead, Dr. Saralyn Mark delivered the Keynote: Time to See the World through a Sex/Gender Lens.

AMWA Global Health Lead, Dr. Padmini Murthy, co-moderated Plenary Session 2: A World with COVID-19 Resilience. Co-moderator Dr. Chien-Jen Chen. Panelists included Dr. Chien-Jen Chen, Prof Chang-Chun Chan, Prof Dale Fisher. Dr. Chien-Jen Chen is past Vice-President of Taiwan and a renowned epidemiologist.

Awards

Dr. Padmini Murthy was awarded the received the inaugural TMWA Physician Award, sponsored by the Chang Gung Medical Foundation conferred for her global work in promoting the health and human rights of women and girls with a focus on Social Determinants of Health. The Chang Gung Medical Foundation has been a pioneer in advancing groundbreaking medical research and quality medical care by integrating the latest technology and research into the practice of multidisciplinary medicine.

Dr. Satty Keswani was honored with the Jirad Oration by the Medical Women of India.The Jirad Oration is delivered every three years at the MWIA Congress.

The MWIA Congress is held every three years and hosted by a different country each time. AMWA was honored to host the 100th Anniversary Congress in 2019 in New York City, bringing MWIA back to where it was founded in 1919. AMWA Past President, Dr. Esther Pohl Lovejoy, was founding president of MWIA.
