How did you spend the Fourth of July this year?
AMWA Past President, Dr. Roberta Gebhard shares her experience.
“I was invited to a party on the White House lawn, and I hopped on a plane and went! It was quite the picnic! Red, White, and Blue party favors with sunblock and lip protector, snacks, music by Osborn brothers, fireworks over the Washington Monument…”
Dr. Roberta Gebhard along with AMWA members, Dr. Rita Kuwahara (Past Advocacy Co-Chair) and Dr. Kathryn Blair (Resident Member) represented AMWA at the White House 4th of July celebration which recognized active duty military service members and their families.
In his remarks, President Joe Biden said, “As we remember the extraordinary country that this is, I hope we’ll all rededicate ourselves to the essential work of our democracy, which is to unify this nation.”
The event was the largest July 4 celebration held by the Biden administration at the White House. Dr. Kathryn Blair shared, “I feel very grateful that I got to attend the President’s Fourth of July celebration. It was a fantastic time and one I will remember long in the future. I also got to put faces to names of those that have been advocates and members for female physicians across this country. I had a fantastic time and I thank the President, First Lady, White House Staff, and AMWA for this opportunity.”
Dr. Rita Kuwahara, who is also a 2022-2023 Congressional Fellow concurred. “It was wonderful to be among old and new friends to celebrate the Fourth on the South Lawn and to see President and Dr. Biden’s commitment to honoring our nation’s military families.”
