The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) has launched a new initiative focused on raising awareness and advancing care for women affected by rare diseases. Women and Rare Disease aims to highlight the unique challenges women face in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of rare diseases, while advocating for better healthcare solutions.

With over 7,000 rare diseases affecting millions of people worldwide, many women struggle with delayed diagnoses, misdiagnoses, and limited treatment options. AMWA’s initiative seeks to bridge these gaps by fostering education, supporting advocacy efforts, and promoting research that considers sex differences in rare diseases.

As part of this campaign, AMWA will collaborate with healthcare professionals, patients, and policymakers to drive meaningful change. Through these efforts, we hope to ensure that women with rare diseases receive timely and equitable care.
