AMWA Launches Book Discussion Series on Antiracism

On Saturday, June 27, AMWA hosted its first book discussion as one of many antiracism initiatives being developed (outlined in our Commitment Statement). Dr. Beth Garner (AMWA Treasurer), Dr. Nicole Sandhu (AMWA President), Dr. Lawren Wooten (AMWA Medical Student President-elect), and Mollie Marr (AMWA Medical Student Immediate Past President) facilitated the conversation with over 30 participants.

The next book discussion is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 5:30pm EST when we will be discussing Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Watch for the announcement to register; we hope you can join us for another interesting and thought-provoking conversation.

Future book discussions will include works related to racism in medicine and science. We are also developing AMWA’s Antiracism Committee, and we welcome any and all who wish to participate. Join here. Please contact Dr. Nicole Sandhu (nicolesandhu@gmail.com or sandhu.nicole@mayo.edu) if you have questions.
