AMWA hosts 6th Annual HPV Prevention Week Jan 22-26

Today marks the launch of the 6th Annual HPV Prevention Week, co-hosted by the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) and the Global Initiative Against HPV and Cervical Cancer (GIAHC). Over 40 organizations are participating in this year’s event with nearly 1000 registered for the daily webinars. HealthWomen will be hosting a Congressional Briefing on Wednesday.

Tune in daily for webinars that address the need to increase efforts to prevent HPV and HPV-related diseases.


The WHO has announced goals for the eradication of cervical cancer with 2030 targets to include:

  • an incidence rate of cervical cancer below 4 per 100 000 women.
  • vaccination: 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by the age of 15;
  • screening: 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35, and again by the age of 45;
  • treatment: 90% of women with pre-cancer treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed.
