AMWA Participates in the 2019 World Health Care Congress

AMWA Executive Director Dr. Eliza Chin and Dr. Saralyn Mark represented AMWA at the World Health Care Congress April 28 – May 1, 2019 in Washington, DC. The Congress, which has been held for the past 17 years, seeks to empower and connect leaders in healthcare transformation.

Dr. Chin participated in the panel discussion, Women Leaders Tell All: Candid Perspectives on What it Takes to Set Yourself Up for Success in a Male-Dominated Industry, moderated by President and Founder of Women in Healthcare, Inc. Co-panelists included Dr. Mary Wilson, President and Executive Medical Director of The Southeast Permanente Medical Group; Michelle Copenhaver, Regional Vice President, Southeast Territories, Aetna; and Lisa Suennen Managing Partner, Venture Valkyrie LLC and Co-founder of CSweetener.  Meeting highlights included Keynotes by Former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb, HHS Deputy Secretary Eric D. Hargan, Senator Bill Cassidy, Theranos Whistleblower and Entrepreneur Tyler Shultz and an after hours fireside chat with Seven-Time Olympic Medalist Shannon Miller. The keynote panel, Keeping Pace with the Medicare Advantage Market: A Blueprint for Innovation, offered novel approaches to the way traditional healthcare is delivered. Panelists included CEO and Co-founder of Iora Health Dr. Rushika Fernandopulie who has pioneered a model of relationship based care which provides higher quality of care and service to older adults while reducing costs and improving health outcomes.

Other topics at the Congress included digital health and applications of artificial intelligence, behavioral health, clinician burnout, gender equity in the workplace, value based healthcare, advancing disruptive medical innovations, and accountable data sharing.
