AMWA Announces the Launch of a New Mentorship Program

The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) launches a new Mentoring Program for National Mentoring Month with a commitment to sustained mentorship throughout the year.

This platform provides members with a single location in which to meet, learn, share, and develop meaningful connections – and is accessible through a mobile app.

Why mentorship matters.

Most women physicians will say that they wouldn’t be where they are today had they not had support and encouragement along the way. In fact, many AMWA members achieve success and find career satisfaction because they’ve been fortunate to find a mentor or sponsor within AMWA who provided critical insights at just the right time.

Membership in AMWA offers you access to a dynamic network of women physician leaders across all specialties. The diversity of our community is one of our greatest assets, creating opportunities to learn from one another and form meaningful connections. AMWA mentoring means interacting with women in medicine from different specialties, settings, and work cultures.

“One of my favorite things about AMWA is the breadth of knowledge and experience among our members,” said Katherine Sharkey, MD, PhD, AMWA Mentorship Chair and Associate Dean for Gender Equity at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. “Whether they are looking for advice about salary negotiations, or want to talk to other physicians who’ve experienced fertility issues, or are trying to decide on a subspecialty, this platform will help members tap into the AMWA brain trust.”

“I am especially excited about the mentor training materials and resources that are available in the platform. I sometimes find that junior women don’t think of themselves as mentors – meanwhile, there are so many people who look up to them and want their advice. AMWA’s mentoring platform will also facilitate bi-directional mentoring – I always say I learn as much from my mentees as they learn from me!”

What Does the AMWA Mentoring Platform Offer You?

An all-in-one resource that will:

  • Facilitate matching of mentors with mentees based on areas of interest, skills, and experience
  • Provide a virtual space for meetings and learning
  • Enable 1:1 and group mentoring

You will be able to join as a mentor, a mentee, or both!
