AMWA 103rd Anniversary Meeting a Resounding Success

AMWA 103rd Anniversary Meeting

AMWA 103rd Anniversary Meeting, Philadelphia, PA

AMWA’s 103rd Anniversary Meeting and MWIA North America Regional Meeting was a resounding success, bringing together over 500 attendees from all over the world for a weekend of education, networking, and inspiration.  Attendees came from as far away as Nigeria, England, and Germany.  Highlights included keynote speakers Dr. Vivian Pinn, Dr. Marjorie Jenkins, and Dr. Ora Pescovitz, an award ceremony honoring Dr. Michele Barry, Dr. Pauline Maki, Dr. Theresa Rohr-Kirchgraber, Dr. Wendy Klein, Dr. Marshall Wolf, and Mollie Marr, and presentations by physician authors Dr. Jessica Zitter, Dr. Eileen Einterz, and more.

An AMWA contingent participated in the Philadelphia Anti-Gun Violence rally, while the rest of the attendees sported orange and gray – “Gun Violence is a Public Health Issue” T-shirts. Recurring themes of the conference included sex and gender specific medicine, leadership, and physician wellness. Over a dozen workshops covered topics as diverse as complex contraception and contract negotiation to NBME question development and running for public office. New programs included a graduate medical education poster showcase and breakout, a panel on film and medicine, and a special viola performance organized by AMWA’s new music and medicine committee.

Old friendships were rekindled, new networks developed, and attendees returned home recharged and re-invigorated.
