AMWA’s 102nd Anniversary Meeting in San Francisco this past weekend brought together over 500 women in medicine for a weekend of education, networking, and professional growth. Highlights included keynote lectures by two women medical school deans, Dr. Julie Freischlag (UC Davis) and Dr. Vivian Lee (University of Utah), social justice attorney Sandra Fluke, and Dr. Jessica Mega, Chief Medical Officer at Verily (Google). Other sessions covered the spectrum of women’s health, leadership, global health, empathy, slow medicine, sex and gender specific medicine, environmental toxins, infectious disease outbreaks, child and adolescent health, innovation in medicine, memory loss, and the female brain. A career development pre-conference and mentoring breakfast workshop provided valuable skills for professional growth. Networking programs, including Studio AMWA’s paint night, Literary AMWA’s book readings, writing workshop, coaching and CV review sessions, and group San Francisco tour were well received by attendees and helped enhance the conference experience. We look forward to seeing everyone in Philadelphia for AMWA’s 2018 Annual Meeting.
