Give the Gift of Life

Global Health x Advocacy

Leukemia and other blood cancers affect over 300,000 people in the United States alone. Individuals affected by these diseases only have a 1 in 4 chance of finding a match within their family. If they cannot find a match there, they must look to the International Donor Registry which is their last hope at finding a cure. Unfortunately, the registry does not provide the same chances at finding a match for every person. Since matches are more commonly found in people of your same ethnic makeup, individuals of ethnic minorities and of mixed ethnicity have a harder time finding a donor due to the under-representation of these groups in the registry. The more individuals that sign up for the registry greatly increase the odds that someone in need can find a match, which is why we need as many people as possible to register!

If you’d like to have the opportunity to *literally* save someone’s life, please consider joining the International Bone Marrow Registry. It’s a simple process and can take less than 5 minutes. Visit www.giftoflife.org to find out more about blood cancer, the International Bone Marrow Registry, and how YOU can give someone a second chance at life.
