Keeping Kids Safe from Gun Violence: Policies, Practice, and Progress

On November 14th from 7-8pm ET, Gun Violence Solutions will explore the progress made since Sandy Hook through two different perspectives. Po Murray, the co-founder and chairwoman of Newtown Action Alliance and Lois Lee, MD, MPH, Chair, Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention of the American Academy of Pediatrics, will share their thoughts on the way forward in firearm injury prevention.

Lois K. Lee, MD, MPH, FAAP, FACEP is lead author of the new American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement: “Firearm Related Injuries and Deaths in Children: Injury Prevention and Harm Reduction”. Dr. Lee is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Associate Program Director for Public Policy, Sandra L. Fenwick Institute for Pediatric Health Equity and Inclusion at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is Chair-elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention.
Po Murray is co-founder of Newtown Action Alliance, a national all volunteer grassroots organization founded by Newtown, Connecticut residents after the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting on December 14, 2012. She has been honored for Women’s History Month by the Brady Campaign for her dedication to gun violence prevention and is leading the campaign urging Congress to pass the Protect Our Kids Act. Her organization produced the video: “Is this normal?” as we approach the anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting.
