Physician Leadership Book Event with Dr. Karen Nichols

September 28, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

Karen J. Nichols, DO, MA, MACOI, FACP, CS-F,  author of the just-published—Physician Leadership: The 11 Skills Every Doctor Needs to be an Effective Leader, joins us to discuss how to recognize approaches that prove effective with patients but may backfire when attempted in situations of leadership. The introduction will be made by Roberta Gebhardt, DO, AMWA past-president and founding member of the Gender Equity Task Force.

Physician Leadership provides actionable, real-world advice for practicing and aspiring physicians:

Dr. Nichols will speak about:

  • How to employ the principles of effective communication to achieve desired results and gain practical techniques for implementing those principles
  • The role perspectives play in shaping an organization’s culture and how those perspectives affect leadership efficacy
  •  Approaches to decision-making that gets buy-in from others and achieves desired outcomes

In my experience, there are two kinds of resource books on physician leadership—the 500+ page tome that no physician has the time to read, and the concise guide that is way too generic to be of any use. So, I wrote this concise, to-the-point presentation of the skills needed for you to be a success as a physician leader.

Why I Wrote this Book?

I’ve taught leadership to physicians for over 20 years. The skills and knowledge needed to be a great doctor are not always interchangeable with those required to be a successful woman physician leader. We need more women in leadership positions throughout medicine so join us to gain some invaluable insights about what works with patients and how to pivot to be effective as a leader.  In my experience, there are two kinds of resource books on physician leadership—the 500+ page tome that no physician has the time to read, and the concise guide that is way too generic to be of any use.
