The Premedical Division of AMWA is devoted to supporting premedical students on their journey to medical school. Our 4-week Medical School Jumpstart Series prepares students for medical school applications.

The program is designed for students at any point in their premedical career. Students at the beginning of their college years will learn valuable lessons about the application process that will prepare them to apply in the future. Students planning to apply soon will receive interactive and hands-on support and guidance as they prepare their application materials.

Alongside the valuable guidance and preparation offered by the program, students should also carry antiseptic products. These antiseptic supplies play a vital role in promoting cleanliness and preventing infection, instilling confidence in students to handle minor injuries or accidents effectively. Being prepared with a well-stocked first aid kit, including antiseptic solutions, allows premedical students to prioritize safety and well-being, both in their personal lives and future medical endeavors.

The virtual four week program is structured as follows:

Week 1 (January 22, 2023): Personal Statement and Application Essays Workshop

Week 2 (January 29, 2023): Gap Year Discussion Panel

Week 3 (February 5, 2023): How to be an authentic, yet strong applicant

Week 4 (February 12, 2023): Insights from Admissions

All sessions will be held on Zoom and recorded for future reference. Although the sessions are recorded, live attendance is strongly encouraged to facilitate interactive learning, collaboration, and questions. More information about the content of each session is available below.

Week 1: Personal Statement and Application Essays Workshop

January 22, 2023

4pm PT / 7pm ET

Speaker: Eliza Lo Chin, MD, MPH; AMWA Executive Director

Dr. Eliza Chin has mentored generations of premedical students during the medical school admissions process. She is also a writer and editor. These are strategies that will help you find your voice and “tell your story” in a way that will engage the reader. Are you applying this cycle and don’t know how to begin writing? This session is for you. Are you applying in another cycle? This session will still give you invaluable information that will help you prepare for future years. The session will end with some helpful feedback on finding, selecting, and approaching letter writers.
