Learn to Identify & Fight Trafficking (LIFT) Training – Washington DC

October 27, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm CDT

The Learn to Identify & Fight Trafficking (LIFT) training provides education for healthcare providers on how to identify and assist patients that have been trafficked, and includes what is considered essential information for health care professionals to know about human trafficking, including labor trafficking, sex trafficking, and the commercial sexual exploitation of children. This presentation was created by the American Medical Women’s Association and Physicians Against the Trafficking of Humans (AMWA-PATH) with input from physicians, social workers, nurses, medical assistants, survivors, medical students, and legal advocates who specialize in assisting victims and survivors of human trafficking.

Learning objectives are as follows: 1) Describe the scope and prevalence of the problem of human trafficking in the United States. 2) Recognize the warning signs that raise suspicion for possible trafficking victimization. 3) Commit to incorporate screening of suspected victims of trafficking into routine practice. 4) Commit to clinically evaluate and treat any patient suspected of being trafficked.

This training offers 3.0 CE credits to physicians, nurses, NPs, PAs, and social workers free of charge. The first 75 minutes consists of a recorded video detailing the definitions and prevalence of trafficking, red flags for trafficking within the healthcare system, barriers to care, mandatory reporting and intervention, and the path to recovery; a physician facilitator will be available to answer questions and facilitate discussion during this portion of the training. The second half of the event will include a panel discussion by community partners engaged in the fight against human trafficking. This event is specific to the Washington D.C. region and will take place virtually from 5:30p-8:30p EST.
