Flipping the Script on Defensive Medicine

In this webinar, we will discuss the legal ways to protect yourself and fight burnout.

– typical trajectories of legal processes
– the emotional aspect of practicing defensive medicine
– the role of burnout on medical errors
– how to prevent getting involved or having negative outcomes during a legal process.

Moderator

Kellie Stecher, MD is an OBGYN and Co-Founder and President of Patient Care Heroes, as well as the Governor of the 7th district of the American Medical Women’s Association, and advisor to multiple other companies focusing on patient and staff safety, and mental health. She has won the Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine’s Top Doctors’ Rising Star award for the last three years. She was recently runner up for The Sharp Index: Physician Well-being Leader of the Year. She also won a silver Anthem Award. Her work has made her an invaluable contributor to both local and national publications, news, and podcasts. Her focus is on advocacy and policy change, centering around safety and equity. She is the author of the book, Delivering, which is out now. The book is meant to empower women, mothers, working women, women in healthcare, and to inspire change.

 

Speakers

Christine Zharova is a partner at Rissman Barrett, who has defended physicians, their practices and hospitals for close fifteen years ago in medical malpractice claims. Christine is working towards her Associate Certified Coach accreditation with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) through SurgeonMasters, a physician coach training program founded by Dr. Jeff Smith, an orthopedic trauma surgeon. Christine’s goal is to use the coaching skills to empower physicians who are going through the medical malpractice process because she has seen first-hand how the process impacts every facet of a physician’s life.

 

Dr. Miriam Zylberglait Lisigurski (Dr. Z) is triple Board-Certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Obesity Medicine. In addition, she has completed a Physician Leadership Academy (FMA), a Fellowship on Leadership Development and Education (AAMC) and has been certified as a Mental Health Ally. As a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP) she was selected to be part of the National Wellness and Professional Fulfillment Committee. 

Dr. Z is on the process of publishing her first book “the 3G Cycle of Life”, that focuses on the topics of well-being, burnout prevention and growth. In addition, she is the former Associate Program Director at the Aventura Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Training Program and the Former Founding Internal Medicine Clerkship Director at Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine. 

Dr. Zylberglait has a supportive husband, parents, sister, friends, and two wonderful little boys that help her to integrate her personal and professional life.
