Bioethics in the Post-Roe Era: Perspectives from Clinician Ethicists

Hear from two distinguished clinician ethicists, Dr. Alyssa Burgart, MD, MA (Stanford anesthesiologist) and Dr. Amanika Kumar, MD (Mayo Clinic gynecologic oncologist) about ethical issues related to abortion care in the post-Roe era, in addition to their unique career paths in clinical ethics. Alyssa Burgart, MD, MA, FAAP Clinical Associate Professor of Anesthesiology Perioperative and Pain Medicine Stanford University School of Medicine

 

Dr. Alyssa Burgart is a seasoned and respected pediatric anesthesiologist and clinical ethicist at Stanford University. She is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatric Anesthesiology and the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics. She specializes in anesthesia for pediatric liver and kidney transplantation, and trauma-informed anesthesia care. Dr. Burgart serves as the Medical Director of Clinical Ethics and Co-Chair of the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Ethics Committee. Her work focuses on directly addressing bias, including in reproductive health services.

 

 

 

Amanika Kumar, MD Associate Professor and Clinical ethicist Gynecologic Oncology Mayo Clinic

Dr. Amanika Kumar is a surgeon in gynecologic oncology and a clinical Ethicist at Mayo Clinic. She also spends volunteer time work in reproductive justice and abortion access. Her area of research and expertise is in critical communication, complex surgery for gynecologic malignancy, and frailty in the complex cancer patient.
