Linda Hawes Clever, MD, MACP

The excitement, possibilities, pressures (and disappointments) of career, family and life can test you. Linda Hawes Clever, MD, MACP, will offer ways to achieve some personal space, calm, resilience and even joy, ’midst this frazzle. Dr. Clever isan Internist and Occupational Medicine specialist, a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences,a Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF, and former Associate Dean of Alumni Affairs in the Stanford School of Medicine. She is the founder of RENEW, a not for profit organization that helps physicians sustain (or regain) enthusiasm, effectiveness and purpose. Dr. Clever is also author of The Fatigue Prescription: Four Steps to Renewing Your Energy, Health and Life, and a contributor toThis Side of Doctoring: Reflections from Women in Medicine by Eliza Lo Chin, MD, Executive Director of AMWA.

Dr. Clever received undergraduate and medical degrees from Stanford University, and residency and fellowship training at Stanford and UCSF. She served as the first woman Governor and Chair of the Board of Governors of the American College of Physicians and later was a Regent of the College. She was given AMWA’s Elizabeth Blackwell Medal in 2010. Her husband, Jamie, is also an internist, as is their daughter Sarah, who is on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Her training and life experiences led to a particular passion to work with physicians to integrate their work and life into a fulfilling whole. Join her in a lively interchange about navigating the complex, sometimes competing zones of personal and professional responsibilities and pleasures.
