AMWA Sleep Awareness Week Webinar

AMWA joins the National Sleep Foundation to promote a better understanding of the impact that sleep has on overall health and wellbeing during Sleep Awareness Week. Attend this presentation to learn about the impact that COVID has had on sleep and to consider the sleep health recommendations for behaviors to achieve optimal sleep health.  We will also provide a clinical update on the latest sleep management treatments to address common causes of disordered sleep.

Dr. Erin Koffel will address the impact that COVID has had on sleep and considerations to improve sleep health behaviors in women.

Dr. Surina Sharma will address the state-of-the-art treatment approaches for the top 5 sleep disorders that affect women most.

Speakers:

Erin Koffel, PhD, is the Senior Director of Scientific Affairs and Research at the National Sleep Foundation. Dr. Koffel received her PhD from the University of Iowa in clinical psychology and completed her pre-doctoral clinical internship and postdoctoral residency at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.  Dr. Koffel’s primary objective is helping advance the health and well-being of the public through evidence-based education, interventions, and advocacy, informed by insights on attitudes and beliefs of key stakeholders. She specializes in behavior change, mental and physical health.  She has content expertise in sleep and chronic pain, as well as digital mental health treatment and implementation science.

 

Surina Sharma, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine in the Department of Pulmonary-Critical care and Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Medicine Clinic at Emory University. She holds dual certifications in internal medicine and sleep medicine.

Dr. Sharma completed her medical degree at Maha Rani Laxmi Bai Medical College & Hospital, did an internship at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, her internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital, and a fellowship in sleep medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
