Become a Physician Mentor for Residents
Despite the extraordinary progress women have made in medicine over the last 150 years, there continues to be a pressing need for female role models and mentors, as well as increased study of women’s health issues. Since 1915, the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) has served as the voice of women’s health and the advancement of women in medicine.
One of the ways AMWA seeks to support its resident physician members is through the Charlotte Edwards Maguire, MD Mentor Registry through which resident-physicians have the opportunity to access the unique knowledge and experiences of other female physicians who can offer advice on education, future career, and networking opportunities across the country.
The Charlotte Edwards Maguire, MD Mentor Registry is a searchable database of physician mentors in an array of specialties. The registry is named in honor of Dr. Charlotte Maguire, MD, one of the first female physicians in the state of Florida, first woman president of the Florida Pediatric Society, and former Chief of the Department of Pediatrics at Mercy Hospital in Orlando, FL. Dr. Maguire exemplifies mentorship in medicine.
The concept behind the Charlotte Edwards Maguire, MD Mentor Register is simple: The interested AMWA Residency Division member logs into our secure website with their member log-in information to obtain access to this searchable database. She is then put in touch with matching physician mentors.
The resident drives the mentoring relationship, while the physician-mentor commits to providing guidance through his or her knowledge and experience.
Would you be willing to serve as a mentor? You need not be an AMWA member to serve as a mentor, although of course you are encouraged to join AMWA in order to capitalize on networking opportunities available to you, as well.
To sign up, or for more information, please email President@amwa-resident.org.
