“Rosa, Dia de los Muertos Shrine” Karen Poirier-Brode, M.D.;C.M.

Specialty: OBGYN

Medium: Ceramic tile

Dimensions: 10 x 6.5 x 12

Artist Statement: Dia de los Muertos is a Latin American festival celebrated Nov 1 and Nov 2. Skulls and altars commonly appear in the activities. The assumption is that the dead would be insulted by mourning so the focus is on what the people enjoyed in life, thus the roses for Rosa. I have found ceramics to be a very liberating art form, as one does not have complete control over what happens in the kiln. It’s quite a contrast from the goals of exactness one has in science.
