Samir Zakhari, PhD
Sam Zakhari is currently the Senior Vice President for Science, Distilled Spirits Council of the USA. Previously, he spent 26 years at the National Institutes of Health, most recently as Director of Divisions of Basic Research, and Metabolism and Health Effects. He obtained his BSc in Pharmacy and MS in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Cairo University in 1965 and 1968, respectively. Subsequently, he obtained a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, and then joined the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine as a post-doctoral fellow. He has over 40 years of research experience in the fields of pharmacology, toxicology, biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, physiology, genetics, and molecular biology. He authored over 85 articles, and editor of 14 monographs
