Preeti John, MD
Dr. Preeti John is a critical care surgeon and editor of the book ‘Being a Woman Surgeon: 60 Women Share Their Stories’ – the first anthology in which surgeons in different specialties, including pioneering leaders in Surgery, share their personal experiences. The book has received rave reviews in Annals of Surgery, Harvard Medicine Magazine and the Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. John is board certified in 3 specialties: general surgery, surgical critical care and hospice and palliative medicine. As one of only 72 surgeons in the US who are board certified in Hospice & Palliative Medicine, Dr. John believes in the benefits of integrating palliative medicine education into the medical school curriculum. She practices as the Baltimore VA Medical Center and is assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She has served as acting director of the surgical ICU, is clerkship director of the VA Surgery rotation for University of Maryland medical students, and serves as faculty mentor at the University of Maryland Medical School, the nation’s oldest public medical school (and 5th oldest medical school).
