Connie Newman, MD, FACP, FAHA, FAMWA
Connie B. Newman, MD, is past-president of the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), who now co-chairs the AMWA Leadership Circle, representing the organization’s past presidents and members of the board. She is an endocrinologist, physician-scientist, and adjunct Professor of Medicine at New York University (NYU) School of Medicine, and Academic Visitor, University of Oxford, UK.
She has expertise in statin safety, lipid disorders, diabetes, and obesity, and has published and lectured on statin safety and intolerance for many years. Dr. Newman is Chair of the Endocrine Society clinical practice guideline on the management of high cholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes and endocrine diseases, and Chair of the American Heart Association Scientific Statement on statin safety. She has been appointed a Consultant to the Endocrine and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee of the FDA. She is also a member of the Cholesterol Treatment Trialists’ Collaboration which conducts meta-analyses of large statin cardiovascular outcome trials. Committed to improving cardiovascular health by treating risk factors such as high cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity, Dr. Newman, sits on the Preventive Medicine Task Force, leading development of educational programming on obesity comorbidities, pathophysiology and management, for physicians.
She received her medical training at Weill Cornell Medical Center in NYC.
