Grace Dammann, MD

In the spring of 2008, I was hit by a motorist who crossed over the median barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge. A movie was made, States of Grace, which chronicles how I, and my family, responded to these events: 2 months in a coma, over one continuous year in hospitals, followed by several additional surgeries and inpatient rehab stays. I will address how my experience as ‘patient’ and as ‘family member’ to primary caregivers has changed how I now practice medicine. I began practicing, again, three years after the accident.
