Susan K. Pingleton, MD, FACP, Master FCCP

Susan K. Pingleton is the Associate Dean, Continuing Education and Professional Development at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

Dr. Pingleton is a Professor of Medicine. At the University of Kansas, she has served in multiple senior administrative positions at the University, most recently as Chair of Internal Medicine, the largest clinical department in the University. In that capacity she redesigned and strengthened all educational programs, initiated and implemented a five year strategic clinical plan and improved the financial literacy for the Department of Internal Medicine with alignment of business, clinical, educational and research goals.

Dr. Pingleton was also the Director, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine for ten years. During her time as Director, she incorporated training for critical care medicine and closed the medical intensive care unit so only certified medical intensivists could attend the critical ill patient.

Dr. Pingleton has also served as the Senior Medical Director for the University of Kansas Hospital. She supervised the Hospital’s Medical Director/Hospital Director partnership program which was responsible for the achievement of the Hospital’s five-start quality program. She served as a consultant to the CEO and a member of the Hospital leadership team for quality and educational issues.

Dr. Pingleton received her medical degree from the University of Kansas where she also completed her internal medicine residency and pulmonary fellowship. She established the Pulmonary Division at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in conjunction with an National Institutes of Health Pulmonary Academic Award. She returned to the University of Kansas where she developed the Critical Care Program and served as Division Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Pingleton has extensive experience in local, regional, national, and international service organizations. Among her various national professional activities, she has served as the President of the American College of Chest Physicians, Chair of the ACCP Board of Regents, and as a member of the FDA Pulmonary Advisory Committee and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
