The Bed & Breakfast Program provides overnight hosting to AMWA members who are travelling for residency interviews, fellowship interviews, or scientific meetings. This free program helps members minimize interview costs, learn about the community surrounding their potential program, and access the unique knowledge and experiences of local AMWA members and advocates. Hosts from the student, resident, and physician divisions of AMWA and other AMWA supporters have all come together to strengthen the AMWA community.

Eligibility

This program is available to all AMWA members travelling for residency interviews, fellowship interviews, or scientific meetings.  It is free for all national AMWA members.

Requesting a Host

To request a host, follow the 6 simple steps below:

  1. Log in to the AMWA membership portal by clicking on the "Member Log-In" box at the top right hand corner of this site.
  2. Sign in using your  registered email address and password.
  3. Look for the section titled "My Profile Information" and click on the link within that section titled "Search Bed & Breakfast Directory".
  4. Search by state by entering the two-letter state abbreviation. This will populate a list of B&B hosts within that state and you can sort the results by city. 
  5. You are then responsible for contacting the hosts yourself with your request. We ask that you contact prospective hosts at least 30 days in advance of your stay.  
  6. Become a B&B host so that you can help other members, like yourself, in the future! For instructions on how to become an AMWA B&B host, see below.


AMWA members who volunteer for this program are super friendly and always willing to help out a fellow AMWA member in need, so don't be shy about contacting someone!

Becoming a Host

We are always looking to expand our pool of hosts so that more members can take advantage of this wonderful program. We thank you for volunteering; it is members like you which help strengthen and grow the AMWA community. 

To become a host, follow the 5 simple steps below:

  1. Log in to the AMWA membership portal by clicking on the "Member Log-In" box at the top right hand corner of this site.
  2. Sign in using your  registered email address and password.
  3. Look for the section titled "My Profile Information" and click on the link within that section titled "Update My Information".
  4. Scroll to the very last section titled, "Mentoring & Referrals", and check the box that says "Bed and Breakfast Host".


Host expectations: You must be an AMWA national member or a female physician, resident, or medical student AMWA supporter. You must live within reasonable driving distance of the institution. You must provide a bed or comfortable sleeping surface in a semi-private or private setting. Please note that you do not have to accommodate every request that you receive. You do not have to provide breakfast or transportation to the member you host. It is up to you to decide and communicate to the prospective guest the extent of your support.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I request a host?
This program is operated as a “first come, first serve” volunteer effort. We ask that you submit hosting requests at least 30 days in advance so that prospective hosts can more easily accommodate you.

Do I need to do anything after participating in the Bed & Breakfast program?
Yes! We ask that you send a thank-you note to your host and sign up to become a B&B host, if you have not already done so. 

Is the Bed & Breakfast program available in every city, every day of the year?
This is a volunteer effort administered by AMWA for and by its members. Although we have a rapidly expanding pool of several hundred hosts, please understand that this program may not be available in every destination city on every date. In general, requests for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day cannot be filled. Requests for other stays around the holidays may be difficult to fulfill.

May I bring my partner?
Out of respect for our hosts, this program provides hosting for individual AMWA members only.
