Sarah (Chaoying) Xu is a member of the Class of 2015 at Yale University School of Medicine. She served as the External Relations Chair in 2010 and President in 2011 at the University of Toronto Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology student council. Sarah was instrumental in creating the Lunch and Learn program at the University of Toronto, an educational and mentoring program for undergraduate students. Her fierce advocacy for the improvement of student education and well-being continues to distinguish her at Yale, where she is elected the President of International Medical Students and Scholars Group.

Sarah is inspired by the vision, commitment and resilience of her AMWA peers and mentors. Her personal goal is to advocate for student participation and benefits at AMWA partner associations and corporations. By collaborating with external organizations, she hopes to create a large web of support for all student members.

Outside of AMWA, Sarah is a passionate cancer researcher and has published first-author and co-author papers in high-impact journals. She received the prestigious American Association for Cancer Research Undergraduate Award for two consecutive years for her commitment in cancer research and received the Second Place Research Poster Award at the 97th AMWA annual meeting. Apart from research, Sarah enjoys mentoring undergraduate students and is also a bronze medalist at the National Collegiate Taekwondo Tournament.
