Praveena Selvaduray
Region 9 Director
AK, CA, HI, OR, WA
Praveena began her training at San Diego City College then continued on to UC San Diego where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology. She then continued her education at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where she earned a Ph.D. in Immunology. During this time she gained a great deal of support and inspiration from the university’s MD/PhD Women’s Group. Desiring more of a connection to people, Praveena decided to redirect her career towards medicine which has brought her back to UC San Diego to pursue her medical degree. Once at UCSD, Praveena missed the support she had from her female colleagues at Southwestern, this motivated her to become involved with UCSD’s AMWA chapter and UCSD's Center for Research on Gender in the Professions. Over the years, as she has faced various professional and personal challenges, Praveena has always found great encouragement and advice from her female mentors and colleagues and therefore finds it imperative to make these connections easily available for those who might not know where to find them. As the Region 9 director, Praveena aims to spend the year bringing greater self-awareness to the region by fostering greater dialogue and brainstorming between chapters, thereby empowering individual branches to reach for increasingly ambitious goals.
