Kimberly Faldetta
Global Health Chair
Kimberly is a member of the class of 2014 at Penn State College of Medicine. After studying Environmental Health at McGill University, Kimberly spent a year in Iquitos, Peru studying malaria in pregnancy. While in Peru, she developed a deep appreciation for culture and an understanding of the barriers to health in a developing country. She wants other medical students to have opportunities like hers, which helped shaped her into the student she is today and the doctor she will become. At Penn State College of Medicine, she created a field site in Iquitos to give other students the chance to experience the challenges and victories of global health firsthand. She also spent time in Ecuador, studying exclusive breast-feeding habits among women and the effect on child development. As a Global Health Chair, she will be able to promote international experiences and help connect other students to mentors in global health. She believes that since many diseases preferentially affect women in developing countries, AMWA should be among the leaders in global health.
