Alisa is currently a second year medical student at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She is from North Carolina and graduated in 2008 from UNC-Chapel Hill with a major in Women's Studies. Before attending medical school she volunteered as a domestic violence victim advocate, a doula (birth coach), and worked as the research coordinator of the Pelvic Pain Research Unit in the OBGYN department at UNC. The commonalities among feminism, health, and social justice motivated her to pursue a career in medicine and to serve the AMWA community as advocacy chair and co-president of UNC's AMWA Chapter. Alisa hopes to explore and share the connections between social and medical issues affecting women in the health care system as AMWA advocacy chair.
