Celebrating Women in Medicine Month champions women in health care, from the first woman to graduate from medical school, Elizabeth Blackwell, to the countless women health care workers of today. Here are a few milestones.
1865 Mary Walker, the first commissioned assistant surgeon general, earns the Congressional Medal of Honor for service during the Civil War.
1919 Alice Conklin is the first female ISMS delegate.
1947 Martha May Eliot is the first women elected president of the American Public Health Association.
