December 14, 2011: AMWA Congratulates Member Vivian W. Pinn MD, First Recipient of the Bernadine Healy Award

AMWA member and 1995 recipient of AMWA's Elizabeth Blackwell Medal Vivian W. Pinn, MD will be awarded the inaugural Bernadine Healy Award, to be presented at the 20th Annual Congress on Women's Health, March 16-18, 2012 in Washington, DC.

Dr. Pinn recently retired as the first permanent director of the Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and has long been active in efforts to improve health and career opportunities for women and minorities and to raise awareness in the scientific community about the importance of sex and gender factors in basic science, clinical research, and health care.

AMWA President Mary Guinan, PhD, MD, congratulated Dr. Pinn on her recognition, noting that Dr. Pinn's "strong voice and influence are essential as we work to continually improve the health of our nation and support physicians and other providers that strive to achieve health parity."
